The Millennium Port is envisioned as the premier Gulf Coast intermodal hub to the Americas and Europe. Development scenarios include non-conventional cargo transportation systems such as rail/barge configurations capable of moving an entire unit train and high-speed, low-wake ferry systems for moving containerized cargo. TranSystems was commissioned to study the Millennium Port concept in order to select the most appropriate site, develop conceptual site plans identifying infrastructure required to meet forecasted cargo demand, and determine economic feasibility relative to both initial and long term capital investment.
